Early Times Report

JAMMU, Oct 28: 6th Natrang Theatre Festival of the year 2018 opened here today at Natrang Studio Theatre with the presentation of the play 'Refund' in Hindi, originally a Hungarian play written by Fritz Karinthy and directed by Sumeet Sharma. The play Refund has an unusual story.
The play depicts one middle-aged man walking up to the Principal of his school and openly admitting that he was a failure in life because his teachers had not taught him well, for which the school and its teachers should take the blame.
And not just that, he demands that the school should 'Refund' his entire school fees along with interest.
The play takes an interesting turn when he demands that there be a re-examination for him in all subjects.
He is determined to 'fail' the exam while the teachers are hell-bent on 'passing' him even after giving wrong answers to retain the prestige of the school.
He was asked very easy and silly questions to which he provided very weird answers but to his surprise all the illogical and stupid answers were proved right very cleverly. He considered that he would take money back but he was outwitted by his teachers. At end of play he has to return empty-handed and realizes that he has been tricked and as he prepares to leave the school in disgust, he is mocked at by his teachers in turn.
The play carries a very important message for the society, it also questions, in a satirical manner that what utility our present education system provides us and what purpose it solves, if not making pupils capable of standing on their own feet.
Sumeet Sharma played the pivotal role with professional ease. He was ably supported by the energetic performance of Rajat Salgotra, Deepali Sharma, Jatin Sharma, Ujhwal Bandral, Sushant Singh Charak, Rahul Gupta, Udit Sagar and Sumit Raina.
