Jammu, Oct 31: Three days training workshop on Child Labour and Ensuring Child Protection organised by Directorate of ICPS Department of Social Welfare Jammu and Kashmir, National ,Development Foundation (NDF) Jammu, V.V. Giri National Labour Institute (VVGNLI) Ministry of Labour and Employment Govt. of India; concluded on Wednesday at Conference Hall, Convention Centre, Jammu.
Dr. S.D. Singh Jamwal was the chief guest in the valedictory session. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Pawan Kotwal, Financial Commissioner, Revenue on October 29 . G.A. Sofi State Mission Director ICPS, Rajiv Khajuria Founder Emeritus NDF / Member Selection cum oversight committee under JJ Act, Dr. Helen R. Sekar Senior Fellow VVGNLI, Amitav Khuntia Associate Fellow VVGNLI, Mrs. Neha Gandotra Chief Operating Officer NDF, Dr. Ashiq Raza Malik, Ms. Manjari Singh Programme Coordinator Childline, Hilal Bhat Child Protection Specialist UNICEF, Prof. Arti Bakshi HoD Department of Psychology University of Jammu and Member Selection cum Oversight Committee under JJ Act, Ms. Ankur Mahajan Principal Excise and Taxation Training Institute were among the experts and panelists in various sessions during the training. The programme was attended by over 100 participants including Chairpersons and members of Child Welfare Committees, Members of Juvenile Justice Boards, members of District Child Protection Units, officials from Labour Department, ICDS Department, Social Welfare Department, members of Interagency regional alliance on child rights, representative of Child Care Institutions, NGOs/ CBOs.
During these three days workshop, experts deliberated in different sessions on Understanding child labour (Definition, Dimensions, Determinants), Child Protection Policies and Legislations in J&K, SDG and Child Labour, Incidence and magnitude of Child Labour in Jammu and Kashmir, Role of Childline in Child Protection and eliminating child labour, Enhancing Skill Development and Livelihood for Poverty Reduction (Role of Social Partners), Migration and trafficking of children (addressing vulnerabilities). Panel discussion was also held on prevention, identification, rescue and rehabilitation of children in need of care and protection: Roles and responsibilities of Social partners and stakeholders.
Rajiv Khajuria Founder Emeritus NDF in his speech at the valedictory session gave an analytical overview of provisions relating to child protection in various International conventions and its linkages to the National Policy and legal provisions. He also mentioned about the various mechanisms and structures that are in place and stressed on the effective functioning of various stakeholders and social partners with their multi-pronged innovative approaches which are essential for addressing child protection and child labour issues.
