Early Times Report

BARAMULLA, Oct 31: Throwing norms to wind, one of the premier schools in this north Kashmir district has openly violated the High Court order and awarded contract of books and other stationary items to a particular bookseller.
According to sources, the contract of books and other stationery items was awarded to the bookseller who is selling books and school uniforms on exorbitant prices.
Irony of the fact is that school management has not issued a list of books to any other bookseller in the district, and with the result parents are compelled to purchase all the school items from one bookseller only, said sources.
A group of parents told Early Times that recently the school has declared the result with the directions to purchase the books as well as stationery items from a particular bookseller namely M/S Valley Book Shop.
A communiqué was sent to the parents in this regard.
The parents have to purchase books as well as stationery items from the particular shop only.
Chief Education Officer (CEO), Baramulla, Abdul Ahad Ganie, said he has received a complaint regarding illegal practice of selling books and other stationery items by St Joseph school Baramulla. Taking cognizance of the complaints, a letter was dispatched to the Principal of the school, vide letter no: CEO/Plg/Bla.35755-60 dated 30-10-2018.
The letter reads: "This office is in receipt of compliant regarding the aforementioned subject; several SMSs have also been received regarding the matter.
You are hereby directed to examine the complaint and furnish a reply to this office with three days falling which it will be presumed that you have nothing to say in defence and action under rules will accordingly follow."
Sources privy to the complaints said that the higher authorities have taken a strong notice over the callous and greedy attitude of the private schools that have violated the High Court directions and Divisional Commissioner Kashmir has passed directions to all the district heads.
The Divisional Commissioner Baseer Ahmad Khan has directed all the Deputy Commissioners of Kashmir Division, including Leh and Kargil to constitute teams for verification and also take necessary action against such booksellers who are resorting to such act, under intimation to the undersigned.
