Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 1: A billionaire engineer, presently posted in Jammu city, is virtually burning the midnight oil to grab post of Chief Engineer which fell vacant on Wednesday.
According to sources, a group of aggrieved engineers, after recent media reports on his modus operandi, discouraged him, but his secret efforts have once again gained momentum.
The engineer, sources say, has started knocking the door of one of his former bosses in some other department. "Though he made attempts to make his fortune once again by using money power, as he has done in past, his dream could not be fulfilled", sources said and added that it has been learnt that the engineer is trying his 'best' to please his boss under whom he has worked in past.
"He is still enjoying blessing of his former bosses, and despite Governor's rule in place, he is holding a prime post in Jammu city", sources said.
The engineer, a 'blue-eyed boy' of a PDP MLA and former minister had missed his master's blessing. "The PDP minister paved the way for the engineer and twisted the rules, but another PDP leader and the then minister categorically rejected his elevation to next post", sources said and added that he has once again started to knock door of politicians and some bureaucrats.
Sources said that the engineer has raised a huge empire, disproportionate to his known source of income. "Presently, he owns a palatial house at Vidhata Nagar Bathindi and another one is under construction in Bathindi area", sources said and added that he has another house in Sunjwan, several flats including a penthouse, and flats in Pune and Bangalore.
"Besides, he has several land plots in Jammu city and a house in his ancestral village", sources added.
Terming a recent Vigilance raid at Lok Nirman Bhawan, where an official was caught red handed while accepting bribe as 'hoodwinking', sources in department claimed that some engineers who have huge assets, disproportionate to their income, were roaming freely.
The aggrieved engineers, urged upon the Governor, his advisors and the Chief Secretary to constitute a commission to look into the assets of government officials, especially, public works department (PWD) where engineers, who have accumulated property worth billions of rupees.
