| As authorities take a nap, encroachers make hay on Kashmir Canal | | |  ARUN TRISAL

Kathua, Nov 08:- Despite the on-going anti-encroachment drive, some unscrupulous elements have encroached the entire Kashmir canal in Lakhanpur.
All the efforts of Irrigation Department, Municipal Council Lakhanpur, and district administration proved futile in removing the said encroachments.
The locals are not satisfied with the efforts of the irrigation department which has been issuing notices to the encroachers.
People said DDC Kathua took action against the temporary Rehari vendors who paid rent to MC Kathua. However, the same DDC has not proceeded against the permanent encroachers who openly violate the Supreme Court directions.
The employees of Municipal Committee Lakhanpur have also encroached the land illegally and in total misuse of their powers which further encourages people to follow suit.
The people also said that illegal construction was still going on the Irrigation land on the banks of Kashmir canal Lakhanpur and the concerned department seems insensitive to the irregularity.
They said when the department came to take action against the encroachers, the bureaucrats came forward to protect them.
The encroachers are being seen as more powerful and stronger than administration which challenges the administration and forces it not to take any action against them due to which role of Kathua administration and concerned department has been exposed as dominated by the encroachers which have ruined the dignity of the administration.
Even the Basantpur canal, the people said, is also being encroached which have also raised so many questions over the delaying of administration to take action against.
The people have urged the administration to take strict action against the encroachers. |
