Cong defeats Cong in SMC Mayoral polls!
High command to seek explanation from senior leader
11/8/2018 10:13:22 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 8: The Congress party tasted the defeat on Tuesday, with its leaders in a fix over what went wrong and where during elections for the post of Mayor for Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC). There are reports that the party high command is set to seek an explanation from one of its senior leaders who was till date assuring the party that it will grab the Mayor's post.
As per the sources privy to the development, a senior Congress leader and a former Member Parliament from Srinagar had assured the Congress party that all is well within its ranks and that the party will win the position of the Mayor.
He was even confident that his supporters will not ditch him during the secret ballot and that the party will register a major victory.
However, this senior leader had to eat a humble pie on Tuesday when his own corporates ditched him and supported the rival candidate during the Mayoral elections.
"It wouldn't be wrong to assume that it is the Congress that has ditched the Congress during the ballot vote.
The party was assured by its senior leader that all is well and that it shouldn't worry at all for the outcome of the results.
However, he was shocked by none other than his own men," a party functionary divulged.
He added that there are high chances that the state leaders would brief the high command over such a dreadful breach of trust and would also inform it about how this senior leader radiated a misplaced euphoria within the ranks.
As per the reports, the Congress party was eyeing on the post of the Mayor and was confident that it will win. That was the reason that its state chief during several press conferences assured the masses that Congress party is all set to make history and the mayor will be from Congress for Srinagar this time.
"We were all absolutely shocked to see the results. It was indeed a very dismal scene that we witnessed on Tuesday. What happened and how it happened is something to be left for the future confabulations.
At present the party is at the precipice of a disaster with danger of existence in the political landscape menacingly looming over the horizon for it.
The undeniable truth is that our own senior leader was ditched by his own men and that resulted in our dreadful rout," says a party leader, adding that the party high command at New Delhi will seek an explanation from the leader over how the earth beneath him was whisked away by none other than his own trusted confidants.
Furthermore, the leader in question has maintained a stoic silence and since the outcome of the ballot vote, he hasn't even issued a single statement over the development. "There is nothing for him left to say. He will remain in the oblivion as this is the second time when Congress has suffered a major roadblock in its trajectory because of him. Last time, it was during the parliamentary elections in Srinagar when his own hometown voted against the party and supported the rival candidate. This time, the party has lost the vital polls," says a functionary wishing not to be named.
