Colony developed on Defence Land in Sunjwan
Land mafia does not spare even Army
12/10/2018 10:56:40 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 10: Notorious land mafia of Jammu has not even spared the Army and blame it on the alleged nexus between land mafia and the revenue officials, an illegal colony came up on Defence land measuring atleast 800 kanal of land just outside the military station Sunjwan.
However, a whistleblower, seeking high level enquiry into alleged encroachment has knocked door of Governor administration.
RTI activist, Mohd Sadiq Poswal informed that atleast 800 out of 4400 Kanal given to Army in Sunjwan, has been encroached decades back, and unfortunately, the Revenue Department has no exact record of said land.
"In village Thangar and Sunjwan Army had acquired 699 Kanal and 6 Marlas land vide then DC Jammu award order no.5038-42 / Misc dated 20/03/1961 and a mutation no.447 attested in favour of Field Firing Range Sunjwan Jammu on dated 27/03/1989", he said and added that since a large portion of Army land was encroached along with National Highway from Gujjar Colony to Sunjwan Army main gate on bypass. "However, to avoid further loot of its land, the Army took possession of remaining land without proper demarcation from revenue department", he said and added that the mafia started a game to give ownership rights to illegal possession holders of army land.
"On 21/07/2017 another mutation attested vide mutation no. 2906/jeem for total land measuring 3420 kanal and 5 marla including previous one 699 kanal and 6 marla of village Thangar but in latest mutation this figure shown as 651 kanal and 7 marla in favour of Bharat Sarkar in village Sunjwan of Jammu", he claimed and added that between 27/03/1989 to 20/07/2017 some persons got award money illegally by becoming legal heirs of custodian land of village Thangar.
He further said that recently through RTI application he sought copy of award and detail of beneficiaries who got award money for their land which was acquired by Army from DC Jammu, but shockingly no record or documents available in DC office Jammu related to award no. 5038-42/ Misc dated 20/03/1961.
Poswal, who has forwarded the matter to Governor and his advisors and anti graft agencies of state, demanded high level probe to unearth the mafia, that two decade ago swallowed hundreds Kanal of defence land in Sunjwan alone, and also sought re-demarcation of land to know exact detail of land encroached/sold by mafia.
