Drug peddler held with 15 Kg poppy straw

Ramban , Dec 14: Police claimed to have arrested an inter-state drug peddlers and recovered 15 Kg poppy straw (Bhukki) from his possession.
Police spokesman said that today on the directions of SSP Ramban-Anita Sharma, a police party led by Inspector Vijay Kotwal-SHO Ramban under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Ramban-Asgar and under the close supervision of Sanjay Parihar-Additional SP established a surprise naka near Cafeteria Morh, Ramban on NHW to check the vehicles especially outside state bound vehicles.
"Most of the times it has been seen that such vehicles plying on NHW are involved in smuggling of drugs and during checking and frisking, one Punjab bound vehicle (Truck) bearing Registration number PB13AF-9939 was on its way from Kashmir was signalled to stop for checking, but the driver accelerate the vehicle and tried to run away, but the alert cops chased the vehicle and stopped at a little distance", said spokesman adding that during thorough search, the vehicle found laden with apple boxes and recovered poppy straw (Bhukki) packed in polythene carry bags weighing about 15 Kg from a box beneath the driver's seat, supposed to have made especially for smugglings, the new modus operandi for transporting the narcotics.
It is pertinent to mention that on yesterday 43 Kgs of Poppy straw has been seized that too from a Punjab bound truck.
On questioning, the suspected person disclosed his identity as Salam Din of Thoi Pind Maler Kotla, (Sangroor) Punjab has been arrested.
In this regard a case under FIR NO. 201/18 under section 8/15 of NDPS Act has registered against the accused person at Ramban police station and investigation has been geared up to ascertain the source and other persons involved in smuggling of narcotics.
