Jammu, Dec 14: Panthers Party has criticized the government for retention of toll tax at Lakhanpur which is being collected despite implementation of GST in State which is a strong blow to the Centre Government's move for One Nation-One Tax.
Addressing a press conference in Jammu, Panthers Party Jammu District Urban President Rajiv Mahajan said that toll tax is levied on vehicles as well as goods including consumables entering and leaving the State.
It goes against the spirit of GST and sought the abolition of toll tax which also impacts consumers, added Mahajan. In the existing system, he said, there will be no growth in business activity. The main loser of the existing set up, if it (toll tax) continues, will be consumers and small traders, he said and added, "If the government is giving the reason of revenue losses to it by the abolition of the toll tax, why it is shying away from highlighting the plight of poor consumers who are getting routine items at higher rates", he said. |
