Director FCS&CA conducts drive for aware & awakened consumers

Jammu, Dec 24: Amit Sharma, Director Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Jammu today conducted a mass awareness drive towards making consumers aware about their rights and duties during the National Consumer Day at a function held at Press Club.
Jammu Mayor Chander Parkash Gupta, Member J&K Consumer Consumer Court D.K Kapoor, Controller Legal Metrology Afsar Ali Khan, Chairperson Consumer Protection Organisation D.R Danish, President Retailers Association Yash Pal Gupta, Consumer Activist Col Arun and others who attended and talked about various consumer related issues.
It was resolved that soon the newly elected Corporators shall also be given due awareness to spread the message of consumer awareness in their respective wards through the help of Jammu Mayor and JMC.
Director FCS&CA talked about the role of NGOs and various agencies in spreading consumer awareness and also about the 24x7 Toll free Helpline Number 1800 180 7106 of the department wherein all kinds of complaints can be filed by the consumers for their immediate redressal. He emphatically mentioned that new trends in consumer behaviour and latest developments such as electronic commerce also need to be covered soon under the ambit of Consumer Protection Act. In the presidential address, D.R Danish, veteran consumer rights activist discussed several aspects of consumer activities wherein exemplary work has been done and he also outlined various aspects of consumer awareness with experience of more than six decades behind him. It is pertinent to mention here that several programmes were also organised jointly by FCS&CA and Legal Metrology departments in various districts such as Kathua, Udhampur, Reasi, Ramban and Doda to create Consumer Awareness on National Consumer Day. The day concluded with a talk on Doordarshan by Director FCS&CA and Danish wherein public was made aware and lot of consumer related issues were touched.
