Big jolt for Ram Madhav, Lone shows thumb to him, BJP
No pre-poll aliance
12/24/2018 11:23:05 PM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, Dec 24: People's Conference (PC) chief Sajad Lone, who exploited the BJP to the hilt between March 2015 and June 2018 and attained status of Cabinet Minister, is in his true colours. Lone, whose party had just two MLAs, was made Cabinet Minister out of the BJP's quota and he held important portfolios. He has proved that he will be no different from Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti when it comes to Kashmir and that his is an agenda that seeks to hold J&K aloof from the national mainstream and outside the political and constitutional organization of India.
Between November 24 and till date, Lone made several statements and all established that his views on the Army, anti-insurgency operations, Article 35A and Article 370 were consistent with those expressed by the NC and the PDP leaders almost on a daily basis. It's a different issue that the BJP, a pre-poll ally of the Kashmir-based PC, has till date not uttered a word against the views of Lone.
Perhaps, it thought it politically prudent to maintain silence under the premise that it may need his support after the next elections as far as the government formation in the state is concerned.
On Sunday, Lone dashed al the hopes of the BJP to the ground and that too in Jammu. Addressing media persons, Lone declared that his PC will not forge pre-poll alliance with any political party and that his party would field 6 candidates for all the six Lok Sabha seats and 87 assembly seats as and when elections were announced. His announcement could be construed as a big jolt for Ram Madhav, who flirted with him for years. It's a big snub all the more that only on November 21 that the BJP had shocked its own constituency and offered its support to Lone, who had urged the Governor to invite him to form coalition government as he enjoyed the support of 44 MLAs. The break-up was like this: BJP 25 MLAs, PC 2 MLAs and 18 MLAs from other political parties.
