2 inter-state narcotic smugglers held, over 27 Kg poppy straw recovered

Udhampur, Jan 1: Continuing war on drugs offensive to contain the spread of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, Udhampur police today recovered 27 kg 300 grams of contraband substance (poppy straw) from inter-state narcotic smugglers at Chenani, Udhampur.
Rajiv Pandey-SSP Udhampur said that based on a reliable information, a police party of Chenani police station led by SI Sanjeet Sharma-SHO Chenani under the supervision of DySP Chanderjeet Singh-SDPO Chenani raised a naka at motor shed, NHW, Chenani for checking of vehicles.
"During checking, police party stopped one Mahindra pick-up truck bearing registration number HP78-4076 which was subjected to thorough search", said SSP Udhampur.
He further said that during search of said vehicle, 27Kg 300 grams poppy straw was recovered from the said vehicle and two inter-state narcotic smugglers namely Jeevan Jyoti of Lower Badher, Himachal Pradesh (HP) and Surjeet Singh of Shapro Teh. Bagana HP were arrested on the spot and poppy straw recovered. The involved vehicle was also seized on spot.
In this connection, a case under FIR No. 01/19 under section 8/15 NDPS has registered in Chenani police station and further investigation of the case is going on.
