S Tahir-ul Haq Early Times Report Baramulla, Jan 1: While anticipating contact with extremists, CRPF officer of Uri tehsil posted in Jharkhand district died when he came in contact with a live electric wire, the CRPF Spokesperson said. CRPF while issuing a press statement said that, Shaheed Ghulam Jeelani Khan, Assistant Commandant, 157 Bn, was born on April 7, 1989. He was a resident of Manjgram Muqam Uri in Baramulla district; he was a graduate of G/B/D/College, Baramulla, the statement said. Statement said that, he joined Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on June 3, 2014 and completed his basic training at CRPF Academy at Kadarpur, Gurgaon, after completion of basic training, he went for specialized counter insurgency and tactics training at CIAT Shivpuri before being inducted in 157 Bn CRPF, stationed in East Singhbhum district of Jharkhand engaged in anti left wing extremists operations. On Dec 31, 2018, on receipt of intelligence input from SP Khunti regarding movement of extremists, a two day operation was launched in the forest area of Senjani, PS Arki, District Khunti (Jharkhand), two platoons of C/157 under command of Shaheed Ghulam Jheelani Khan took LUP in the target area, the statement said. At around 1800 Hours, troops noticed torchlight near the area where they had taken position. Anticipating contact with extremist, Shri Jeelani along with a small ream moved swiftly to place an ambush along the path where suspected extremists were supposed to move. Leading from front in the darkness, he was about to reach to dominating place to lay an ambush, when he came in contact with a live electric wire, said statement. Having suffered serious injuries due to the electric shock, he was immediately evacuated to PHC Akri, where he was given first aid. He was further shifted to District Hospital Khunti for better treatment but he succumbed to his injuries enroute. Shaheed Khan was a gallant officer, who had joined his first operation unit in Oct, 2015. He was actively involved in conducting operations in his area of responsibility, leading his men from the front. Cheerful and full of energy, he always cared for the comforts of his troops before self. His excellent operational role ensured that his area was incident free. He also volunteered to serve in Kashmir, where he was deployed ailing with his troops for recently concluded ULB/Panchayat elections. In August 2018, he was instrumental in unearthing a huge Maoist dump of weapons/explosive in Vill, Chandur, PS Arki, district Khunti. An avid sportsman, he was an icon in his native village, earning respect from one and all. Meanwhile sources in said that, CRPF camp at Baramulla will present guard of honour to the said officer at DPL Baramulla on Jan 2 at 7:45 am. After that body will be shifted to his native village Manzgam for last rites where local CRPF will again participate in his last rites, sources informed. |
