Early Times Report

BILLAWAR, Jan 1: Former minister and president District Congress Committee Kathua Dr Manohar Lal Sharma today held series of social and religious meetings at villages Durang, Darmari, Phinter, Dadwara, Uchapind, Rampur and greeted people on the eve of new year. During the meeting people apprised Dr Manohar Lal Sharma of their grievances, to point in main they said the ration which has to be provided on BPL quota on priority basis is provided under APL quota deliberately. They said for getting ration they are told to provide their income certificates and when they approach for income certificates in respective departments they are being issued income certificates of Rs 72000 per annum thus removing them from BPL by increasing their annual income on papers. Dr Sharma gave a serious warning to local administration, CAPD department and revenue officials to restrain from such practice and assured people that he and Congress party is standing with the poor people and even warned of starting an agitation if issue is not resolved at the earliest.
On the eve of new year he also sought blessings at the shrine of Mata Sukrala Devi and prayed for peace, prosperity and well being of the state and the nation. During the visit a delegation of local priests of temple along with devotees apprised Dr Sharma of the problems being faced by them. Priests complained that their wages are pending since one year thus forcing them to lead a miserable life.
Dr Sharma said that Mata Sukrala Devi and Mata Bala Sundri Shrine Boards were set up with the aim to provide better infrastructure and facilities to the devotees and tourist visiting the ancient shrines but said it is painful to see the callous attitude of shrine board management in providing facilities & developing the infrastructure.
