No IS presence in valley but youth being radicalised by IS ideology, says DGP Dilbag Singh
1/2/2019 6:51:02 PM

Srinagar: Dilbag Singh, the police chief of Jammu and Kashmir though denied any major presence of Islamic State in Jammu and Kashmir but maintained that the youth of the valley were being radicalised by their ideologies.

In a press conference in Srinagar held on January 2, the Director General of Police (DGP) said, "Carrying IS flags and displaying them publicly to show that there is a very large presence of such elements has happened here in the past also."

"We again say that the IS presence is not that big, but the fact that people are being radicalized on those lines cannot be denied," he further added.

He also said that there are some elements in the state that are trying to radicalise the youth. He mentioned an incident of a masked youth with black flags on December 21, at Jamia Masjid.

"Efforts to radicalise the society have been made at various levels and their expression has been seen in the kind of activities we saw the other day at Jamia Masjid," the officer spoke at the press conference.

The officer said the situation had by and large remained peaceful in 2018 and yet "some precious lives had been lost during" anti-militant operations.
