Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 21: Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and the President of Peoples Democratic Party Mehbooba Mufti seems to be hell bent upon pitting Jammu against Kashmir by raking up the controversial issues.
On Sunday she addressed a news conference in Srinagar and alleged that Muslims, particularly the members of Gujjar and Bakerwal community, are being targeted in Jammu region.
"Kashmir lost its composite culture. But we used to be proud of Jammu but those who master-minded the Rasana (Kathua) rape and murder case are trying to create tensions in Jammu region," she said.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said that Mehbooba after losing her ground in the Valley is trying to project her party as the "representative" of the Gujjar and Bakerwal community she is trying to tell them that they are facing "discrimination" and "harassment" and PDP has become their voice. "Her provocative statements have proven it beyond doubt that she played politics over alleged rape and murder of a Kathua girl and tried to label the people of Jammu as rapists and murderers," the analyst said, "She in fact tried to demonize the entire Dogra community."
A politician said that Mehbooba should stop worrying about Jammu and concentrate on Kashmir region. "Talib Hussain whom she tried to project as PDP's face among the tribals turned out to be a criminal. She is trying to reap the dividends of politicizing the Kathua incident by leveling baseless allegations against the members of a particular community in Jammu," the politician added.
He said that someone needs to remind Mehbooba that Jammu has given shelter to everyone and people of Jammu have welcomed everyone with open arms. "She is playing a communal card to flare up the passions so that she can play politics over it. Her only aim seems to divide the people on the name of religion and garner votes for her party. She is playing with fire," he added.
An observer said that PDP besides losing the support on ground has lost many of its leaders during the past few months. "Mehbooba has run out of the ideas now she is trying to remain relevant by claiming that she is very much concerned about the members of a particular community in Jammu region. In a way she is trying to instigate them so that they lose patience and resort to violence. But people of Jammu won't allow her to succeed in her designs. She won't be allowed to enforce the agenda of Syed Ali Shah Geelani in Jammu region," he added.
