Kashmir based SIs allowed to join in Valley, Jammu based SIs denied joining in Jammu
Discrimination in State Tax department
1/31/2019 12:58:02 AM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 30: In yet another incident of discrimination against Jammu even during Governor rule, the Kashmir based candidates selected as Sub-Inspectors in State Taxes Department (STD) have been given relaxation to join in Kashmir valley rather than Jammu in view of inclement weather but same relaxation was not given to Jammu based candidates in the same list, who have been forced to join in Kashmir valley rather than in Jammu.
The selection list of 93 Sub-Inspectors in Finance department for Kashmir divisional cadre was issued by Finance department on 22/1/2019. Out of these selected candidates for Kashmir divisional cadre, 49 were from Open Merit all from Kashmir division, while 9 candidates selected in SC category belonged to Jammu division.
As per the selection order issued by Finance department all the candidates were asked to report within a period of 22 days at Commissioner Sales Tax office. The post of State Taxes Commissioner is a moving post and in winters the office of State Taxes Commissioner is in Jammu and as per order, all the candidates including those from Kashmir had to report in Jammu.
But seeing the inclement weather conditions, the State Taxes department on 24th of January issued another order asking the candidates of Kashmir division to report in the office of Additional Commissioner State Taxes Srinagar, but surprisingly, in the selection list of Kashmir divisional cadre, nine SC candidates from Jammu were not give any relaxation to join in the office of Commissioner State Taxes, which is at present in Jammu.
"If the Kashmir valley candidates cannot come to Jammu due to inclement weather and closure of National Highway, then how the Jammu candidates will be able to join in valley due to closure of national highway", parents of the candidates selected from Jammu region said.
They further said that they also apprised the Advisor to Governor regarding the matter. "The Advisor to Governor admitted that it was discriminatory order but refused to rectify the same. He called the parents to send the selected candidates of Jammu to meet him so that he would take some action", the parents said.
"It is an open discrimination and by the stroke of a pen, the administration can allow the Jammu based candidates to join at Head office in Jammu but are forced to join in valley, furthering the feeling of discrimination among Jammu people", the parents said, and appealed Governor SP Malik to instruct the department to allow Jammu based candidates to join in Jammu rather than in valley.
