MIET, Red Cross organize eye checkup camp at Amb village

JAMMU, Feb 2: Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) organized a medical camp in village AMB, Block Bhalwal, Jammu with the help of Indian Red Cross Society J&K, Jammu.
A team of 10 medical personnel including Dr. Payal Gupta eye surgeon and Dr. Shamim Akhter under the leadership of Mr. Dinesh Gupta, Secretary, Red Cross, carried out check-up of all the villagers and provided medicines to them. Free surgery for identified patients shall be carried out subsequently.
During the month of January 2019, NSS volunteers of MIET, Mohit Sharma and Amit Sharma under Sahib Singh carried out a comprehensive survey of the eye patients in village AMB. They went to each of the 150 households in the village covering a population of around 1000 villagers. A total of 168 persons complained about eye problems and registered for the check-up, 15 villagers reported cataract problem while 54 villagers had miscellaneous eye problems like night blindness, itching in eye, watery eyes or weak eye sight. The survey report was submitted to Dinesh Gupta, Secretary Indian Red Cross Society, J&K, who promptly agreed to help the villagers and conducted a medical camp with a dedicated eye surgeon.
It is pertinent to mention that, MIET has adopted village Amb and NSS volunteers keep helping the village from time to time. They have already donated computers in the Middle School, provided sports items, renovated the toilet in the school, replaced the broken glasses in the school class rooms etc. till date. 16 poor villagers have also been given insurance policy with life time premium paid by the NSS volunteers. During summer 2018, 25 NSS volunteers also carried out swachhta awareness programme among the children, ladies and other segments of the society in the village.
Prof. Ankur Gupta, Director MIET and Prof. S.K Sharma, Director Academics congratulated the students for their selfless help to the villagers. Rakesh Abrol and Ankush Sharma faculty coordinators and 10 students including Mohit Sharma, Dawood Iqbal, Reema Sharma, Parul Sharma, Tushar Nagar, Danish Soma, Sahil Singh, Ritvik Khajuria, Amit Sharma, Ayush bhat, helped in organization of the camp.
