6 Udhampur villages crave for drinking water

Udhampur, Feb 5: The Government has failed to utilize funds for the welfare of the rural population depriving millions of people in rural areas of safe drinking water despite receiving huge financial assistance from the Union Government.
The National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) of the Central Government is aimed at providing safe and sustainable portable drinking water to the people in rural areas - one of the basic requirements for leading a healthy life. But in Jammu and Kashmir despite having enough funds said scheme is failed to reach out the poor masses department failed to Provide water in many villages of District Udhampur .
At present there seems to be no end to the drinking water crisis in over Six Vvillages of Panchayat Ritti in District Udhampur It is only becoming worse with every passing day. Villagers cover long distance from their houses to collect water and totally depend upon the natural resources of water. Due to the drinking of that dirty water many water borne diseases spread .
After putting life at High risk villagers collect water from an open well which poses a big threat to the common masses especially for small kids but who cares about the life of common masses as they daily put life in danger to collect the water from open well .
Zankar Singh local from village Chappar while Talking to ET said about 6 to 7 villages of Panchayat Ritti face acute water problem , hundreds of villagers from village Ritti, Kashir, Chai, ku, Dagair, Chappar 1 , Chappar 2 are worst suffers due to the non availability of safe drinking water .
He said that the authorities . he alleged that the small or higher officials of Department of PHE not Listen the problems of the common masses . Despite repeated plea to the department of PHE nothing have been done so far .
