Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Feb 16: Suresh Mehta, a tourist arrived to the Valley on Thursday for a five day visit with his family. However, he has not visited a single place since he arrived here as there are apprehensions that non-locals may be targeted in Kashmir by miscreants.
Mehta family are not the only ones who have been confined inside the hotel, but there are hundreds of tourists who are restricted inside their hotels due to situation in Kashmir.
The tourists complain they are facing immense inconvenience as they are not allowed to venture out of their hotels.
Dejected Mehta are determined to return to Mumbai on Monday. He said he has asked the hotel manager to arrange tickets for their return.
"I came here for five days but we have not visited a single place. People at so many places are agitated. I am not able to confirm the ticket so that I could take my family back to home. Even the government is not facilitating tourists in this regard. We are worried that we may be attacked if we venture out," he said.
Uncertainty has prevailed across the valley for the last three days since the Lethpora Pulwama incident took place. "We have come here for a limited number of days, but we have not been able to visit certain places which had planned to visit," said Amir, who has been stranded at a hotel in Pahalgam. "I have never seen such scenes in my life, he added"
There was stone pelting on Saturday in Srinagar's Lal Chowk and Old City areas.
Another tourist, Mahesh, who was staying at a guest in Dalgate said he and his family had planned to visit historic places of Down Town and Hazratbal, but were now reluctant to go there. "We even were not allowed to visit the historic Mughal Gardens," he said.
Struck in their hotels, tourists have sought help from the authorities in getting return tickets.
