Early Times Report

JAMMU, Feb 23: The continuous rain and snowfall in Doda and Kishtwar districts in the ongoing month has put the poor people in hardships as they suffered damages to their houses and orchards and in some cases the people suffered agricultural losses due to land erosion and landslides. People from different areas of Kishtwar and Doda districts while speaking to "Early Times" complained about non-availability of essential commodities including LPG, Kerosene Oil, medicines and ration. District Secretary National Conference Kishtwar Shabir Ahmed Kamal said that several people from Nagnisi, Padder and far flung areas of Marwah, Warwan and Dachhan are complaining about missing of revenue officials in the area adding that neither concerned Patwaris nor any Naib Tehsildar or Tehsildar visited the affected areas for preparing the damage reports added that the administration has totally collapsed at the time when people required their services. Arif Hussain Sarpanch Panchayat Hillour in Kuntwara Kishtwar inform that the house of one Roopa Devi Wife of Bajjra R/O Hillour damaged due to snowfall adding that the area is without road and electricity and called upon the authorities to immediately provide the relief to the lady. Political and Social Activisit Puran Chand Thakur from Drubeel in Chatroo inform that a cowshed of Khurshid Ahmed suffered the damages due to snowfall adding that several houses suffered damages due to snowfall in the area and called upon the authorities to constitute special teams for assessment of losses to the public property.
Meanwhile even after 16 days the authorities fail to restore 132 KV NHPC transmission line that provide electricity to Kishtwar after it suffered massive damage due to heavy snowfall.
The people said that despite assurance from the PDD officials, the majority of the Kishtwar town and its peripheral areas are without electricity as the 33 KV transmission line from Khilani Grid via Thatri provide only 7-8 MW electricity to Kishtwar to run emergency services as a result of which the public gets only one hour electricity after every six hour break.
