Militant, lady SPO killed in separate incidents in South Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Mar 16: A militant was today killed in a brief encounter with government forces at Kujar area of South Kashmir's Kulgam district.
Reports said that a joint team of army and SOG launched cordoned off at Kujar, Yaripora village after receiving inputs that some militants are hiding in the area. As the joint team fired some warning towards the suspected spot the hiding militants opened fire and tried to break the cordon. However the joint team engaged the militants in a gunfight.
Reports said during the initial exchange of firing one militant has been killed and his identity is being ascertained. The search operation was going on in the area when last reports came in. Meanwhile, police on its official Twitter handle wrote; "Brief exchange of fire at #Kulgam. Area under cordon. Details shall follow. @JmuKmrPolice @policekulgam." In the backdrop of a brief shootout at Kujar Yaripora village of south Kashmir's Kulgam district, mobile internet services have been suspended in the district for "precautionary measures".
An official said that the service was suspended to "prevent law and order situation" following an encounter in the district. Meanwhile, militnats shot dead a woman Special Police Officer (SPO) in Shopian district of south Kashmir.
Reports said that a female SPO identified as Khushboo Jan, a resident of Vehil village of Shopian district was fired upon by unknown gunmen at her house in Vehil Village, leaving her critically injured.
Soon after the incident, Khushboo was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was declared as brought dead.
Meanwhile, Police have taken the cognizance of the incident and searches have been launched in the village to nab the attackers.
A police spokesman said that militants today fired on a police woman Khushboo Jan at her village in Vehil area of Shopian district. She sustained critical injuries and was evacuated to hospital where she succumbed. In the meantime, former chief ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti condemned the killing of woman SPO.
Omar while condemning the act and extend his condolences to the family of the deceased woman and all colleagues. "A lady special police officer (SPO) was shot & killed outside her home in South Kashmir earlier today. I condemn this act of terror & extend my condolences to her family & all her J&K police colleagues," Omar said on Twitter.
The PDP president Mehbooba Mufti condemned the killing and said the 'vicious cycle of death and destruction seems to have no end'.
"I strongly condemn this brutal act of terror. My condolences to the family. This vicious cycle of death and destruction seems to have no end," Mehbooba wrote on Twitter.
