KP'S & separatists have lauded Pak move to open Sharda Peeth
3/27/2019 10:24:04 PM
Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and former Chief Minister and PDP president Mehboboa Mufti have welcomed Pakistan government's decision to open Sharda Peeth temple in Pakistan administered Kashmir (PaK). "Media reports about positive movement between India and Pakistan on opening of Sharada Peeth temple is a welcome sign. During Hurriyat's last visit to Pakistan, Hurriyat leaders had also urged the government there to facilitate the pilgrimage as it was a deep longing of our Kashmiri Pandit community," Mirwaiz tweeted. The PDP president also took to twitter to welcome the move.
"Not too long ago I had written to PM imploring GoI to reopen Sharda Peeth, a temple across LoC for Kashmiri Pandits. An initiative like this at a time when Indo - Pak tensions are at an all time high could help navigate the current impasse," Mehbooba said in a tweet. Kashmiri Pandit organisations have been demanding opening of the Sharda Peeth corridor for many years now
A Kashmiri Pandit group Save Sharda Committee Kashmir (SSCK) has hailed Pakistan government for reopening Sharda Peeth pilgrimage route. Head and founder of SSCK Ravinder Pandita in a statement said Pakistan government has in principle agreed to reopening of the Sharda Peeth temple and formal decision shall be conveyed to the government of India shortly. "We are hopeful that our struggle for reopening of Sharda Peeth will come to a logical end and that all Shankracharya followers benefit from its re-opening," he said. Pandita appealed Prime Minister Narendra Modi to accord approval for annual Sharda pilgrimage as well. If Imran Khan reopens the Hindu Pilgrimage in Occupied Kashmir he may be seen as the first head of the Government in Islamabad to try to improve relations with India.
Well nobody can trust the Pakistan Army nor the Prime Minister of Pakistan. On one side Islamabad plans to throw open one of the ancient pilgrimage centres for Pandits to visit, on the other hand Pakistan Army continues to resort to ceasefire violations and the latest exchange of fire was witnessed on the LoC in Rajouri district. By deciding to reopen Sharda Peeth pilgrim centre in Pakistan occupied Kashmir Pakistan may fulfill prolonged desire of Hindus from India to visit the Shrine and there also pray for peace between India and Pakistan. It is a first sign of Pakistan's attempt at bridging the gap between India and Pakistan. Hitherto the bilateral relations have gone through a difficult phase and this is the time for Pakistan to promote peace with India by throwing open the ancient pilgrimage at Sharda Peeth.
