Ah, BJP's Margdarshak's sidelined
Omkar Dattatray3/27/2019 10:24:28 PM
Election 2019 is a do-or-die battle for BJP and for that matter for the congress as well. BJP does not want to take any risk and is selecting the candidates as per their chances of win-ability and age factor. But in doing so the cadre based and disciplined party BJP has sidelined the party veterans and the old guards of the party. It was after 2014 elections that the Saffron party has not inducted these party patriarchs and veterans in the council of ministers and had constituted BJP's Margdarshak Mandal (advisory body) and thus accommodated those who were ousted from holding important governmental positions. In this way L.K Advani, M.M Joshi and other senior leaders were made members of this advisory body of BJP which in due course of time became redundant. This has been done only to distance these old veterans from entering the coveted seats of ministries. But the height is this that the Margdarshak Mandal has not met even once since its formation in 2014 and one can as such guess its functioning and importance in BJP's politics and its organizational affairs. If the Saffron party had been keen on the placement of these senior leaders of the party, they should have been absorbed in the constitutional posts of Vice-president and governors but nothing of this sort happened. Now once again these BJP veterans had to eat a humble pie as they were not fielded as party candidates from their constituencies which they earlier represented. The BJP veterans who had played very important role in the foundation of BJP and in the rise of the party to the centre stage of Indian politics cannot be denied and it is bad and selfish politics to ignore them. But unfortunately they have been sidelined and not allowed to contest elections this time. Neither these old guards of the party are selected for contesting the upcoming elections nor are there any plans to rehabilitate them in the constitutional and prestigious posts. This shows dislike of Modi-Amit Shah duo for these senior party leaders whose contribution to the party's development is next to none and in the words of Modi the contribution of L.K Advani to Indian politics is historical and monumental but even knowing this well these senior leaders of the party have been shown the door unceremoniously and this is the tragedy and this should not have happened. Another senior party leader Yashwant Sinha was earlier made scapegoat by the BJP top brass. Now actor turned politician Shatrugan Sinha is facing the music and is not fielded as a candidate from his constituency of Patna Sahib and from there present law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has been fielded as the candidate. Advani who was instrumental in the rise of BJP and in making BJP a mass based organization was replaced with BJP president Amit Shah from Gandhi Nagar constituency which was hitherto represented by L.K Advani. Similarly another senior most BJP leader M.M Joshi was replaced from Kanpur constituency. It has become known that octogenarian leader of RRS backing was not allowed to contest from Kanpur. M.M Joshi the die-hard ideologue of Sangh Parivar was keen to contest elections from his constituency of Kanpur and he had also chalked a program of visit to this city which he later cancelled. In all as many as six party veterans have been not been allowed to contest the elections. It seems that BJP's top brass comprising of Modi-Shah duo have decided not to field old candidates to contest the elections so that new and young blood is introduced in the party. So far so good but then to sideline the party's founding members and senior leaders from the politics and from contesting elections is a sad reflection and commentary upon the political health of the grand old party which was known as Jan Sangh in its old incarnation and it seems that it is the undeclared policy of BJP to debar the senior and old leaders from contesting the elections. Advani, Joshi and other senior leaders were pivotal in the rise of BJP from a few seats in parliament to the position of ruling the country by BJP for the first time and even then BJP poll managers have decided not to field these candidates this time and it is no less than a slap on these leaders. The people of the country read voters will not digest this treatment to the senior most leaders of the party. Senior leader of BJP Satrugan Sinha has rightly said that BJP has been reduced to a two man army or two man party where all organizational, political and strategic decisions are taken by Modi and Shah. Inner party democracy has become a thing of past in BJP. The Ram Rath Yatra of Advani in 1990 is famous and has consolidated nationalist vote and it has made Ram Temple construction a people's movement, besides it has given quantum jump to the party in the Lok Sabha. Advani has made BJP a mass based party and earlier it was touch me not party and this tag of the party has been removed through the efforts of Advani. But unfortunately he too has been kept aside from contesting Lok Sabha elections from his home constituency of Kanpur. Imagine how shabbily the BJP is treating its founding members and it is a cause of concern to the people.
