Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Apr 13: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti may land into a soup following the circulation of a video in which a party supporter was seen dancing while carrying a toy gun in his hand during a rally in Central Kashmir's Budgam district.
In the video that has gone viral on the social networking sites the PDP supporter can be seen brandishing the toy gun. The incident happened in the Chadoora rally that was addressed by Mehbooba. Later on in the video the PDP supporter can be seen holding a toy pistol in his hand.
In the video the PDP supporter can be seen raising slogans in favour of the party and the president. He in the video is holding in the same manner as is being done by a militant while he pays tributes to his colleague killed in an encounter.
The PDP as a party has come in for sharp criticism from the mainstream parties and leaders of these mainstream parties have accused PDP of playing with fire. These leaders have alleged that PDP leaders especially it's President are promoting militancy and giving vent to the feelings of the militants.
Seeking immediate cancellation of the nomination of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti from Anantnag parliamentary seat, Bharatiya Janata Party today said that election authorities should take the action immediately in the case.
BJP state spokesman Altaf Thakur while strongly opposed the act of a PDP supporter holding a toy pistol and toy AK 47 gun in his hands in a PDP rally at Chadoora, Budgam urged the Chief Electoral Officer JK and the Election Commission of India to disqualify Mehbooba for promoting militancy in her poll rallies.
In a statement issued here, Thakur said that it was unfortunate that for the greed of power, Mehbooba was playing militancy card to garner support from people. This way, PDP is promoting gun culture in Kashmir just to befool people and to seek votes, he said.
Thakur said that chief electoral officer and the Election Commission of India must look into the issue on priority and immediately disqualify the PDP president by cancelling her nomination papers. He said BJP will strongly oppose any move aimed at promoting the gun culture.
It would be in place to mention here that Srinagar Mayor, Junaid Azim Mattu has landed into a controversy following allegations that he distributed smart phones among the councillors of Srinagar despite the fact that Model Code of Conduct is in place across the country as the Lok Sabha polls are in progress these days.
Following the alleged violation of MCC, Mattu has been served a notice by the Nodal Officer, MCC for the Srinagar parliamentary seat. He has been asked to be present in this regard and explain his point of view regarding the allegations leveled against him. Additional Deputy Commissioner who is also the Nodal Officer, MCC for Srinagar parliamentary constituency has directed the Mayor to deposit all smart phones.
In this regard he has been asked to explain his position as why did he distribute the smart phones among the councillors of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and explain his conduct tantamount to violation of Model Code of Conduct in his office by today evening.
