Highway reopens after 24-hour closure
4/20/2019 9:56:46 PM

Srinagar
After remaining closed for more than 24-hours the 270 km Jammu-Srinagar national highway was restored for vehicular traffic on Friday morning, officials said.

They said that the highway was closed on Thursday after landslides at two places Battery Chasma and Monkey morh.

Trucks, load carriers and passenger vehicles remained stranded from Ramban to Chanderkote , Battery Chasma to Ramban and Battery Chasma to Ramsu sector on the highway, a witness said.

It said that hundreds of vehicles were moving at a snail’s pace on the highway due to massive traffic snarls from Banihal to Ramban.

Officials at the Traffic control unit Ramban informed Greater Kashmir that traffic has been moving smoothly since this morning.

Meanwhile, authorities on Friday evening said that only stranded vehicles would be allowed to ply on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway on Saturday subject to fair weather conditions. No fresh vehicle shall be allowed to move from Jammu towards Srinagar or vice-versa.

“The commuters are advised not to travel during night hours. No movement of any type of vehicle shall be allowed from opposite direction. People are advised to undertake journey on NHW only after confirming status of the road from traffic control units,” a police spokesman said in a statement.

He said that travelers can check the status of the highway on following numbers: 0191-2459048, 9419147732 in Jammu, 9419993745 in Ramban, 0194-2450022, 2485396, 18001807091 in Srinagar and 8491928625 in Udhampur.
