Kashmir centric parties least interested in country's security

Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 21: The Ministry of Home Affairs suspending the cross LoC trade between India and Pakistan has evoked sharp reaction from the Kashmir centric parties. National Conference, Peoples Democratic Party and other parties have flayed the MHA decision and have termed it as "one more Confidence Building Measure being buried."
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "These parties seem to be living in an illusionary world. By opposing the MHA decision they have once again proved that they can go out of way to appease the Pakistan stooges and people sitting across the Line of Control. For them appeasement is important than country's security."
He said the reasons ascribed by the MHA to suspend this trade should serve as an eye opener for the people who are beating their chests for this rickety trade being suspended. "It has come to fore that Pakistan terror outfits were using this trade for anti-India activities," he added.
The cross LoC trade centers had virtually become hub of narcotic smuggling. Unscrupulous and anti- national elements were using the route as a conduit for Hawala money, drugs and weapons, under the garb of this trade.
A politician said that this trade was started to bring people from both the sides closer to each other but it failed to serve that purpose. "It's unfortunate that people sitting in Pakistan used this trade for carrying forward their enmity with India by transporting weapons, drugs and money through Hawala channels," he added.
He said, "Now it's an open secret that international drug lords and anti-national elements had taken control of the cross-LoC trade and successive state governments had intentionally allowed continuation of this illegal business through cross border trading routes due to vote bank politics."
It may be recalled when PDP-BJP coalition was ruling the state a huge haul of narcotics and weapons was seized at Salamabad Trade Centre in north Kashmir's Uri area. At that point of time the MHA had decided to suspend this trade but the then Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti intervened and prevailed upon the MHA to reconsider its decision. "Had she allowed the MHA to go ahead with its decision at that point of time weapon and drug smuggling could have been controlled to a great extent. But she (Mehbooba) wanted to appease the separatists and their bosses sitting across the LoC and she succeeded in her mission," said an analyst.
He said that suspension of the cross LoC trade is a big jolt for the terrorists and their handlers. "This decision is the last nail in the coffin of those people who were fuelling terrorism and unrest in the Valley by pumping money through this trade," he added.
