Shah Faesal stirs hornet's nest, his remark draws flak
'Bureaucrats kneel before politicians'

Early Times Report
Jammu, May 17: Former bureaucrat turned politician Shah Faesal has stirred the hornet's nest by stating that bureaucrats have to "kneel before the politicians and have to take dictations from them."
Talking to a gathering at the launch of a book in Srinagar, Faesal said, "I have seen bureaucrats kneeling before the politicians, struggling with the system. My decision to quit bureaucracy and join politics was to change this eco-system."
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "Faesal's remarks have undermined the authority of the entire bureaucratic fraternity. His assertion has brought to fore that politicians are the real bosses and the official machinery dances to their tunes."
He said that "It means that after joining politics he (Faesal) too wants to be the boss and wants bureaucracy to dance to his tunes. No one expected such a bizarre remark from a person like Faesal, who has remained a part of the system," the analyst said.
An official wishing anonymity said that "It seems Faesal has forgotten that bureaucrats and other officials are full time employees while the politicians, who come and go, are just daily wagers. He (Faesal) has been claiming that bureaucrats cannot do anything on their own but his assertions have no takers."
He said, "It's the bureaucrats and the employees who run the government, politicians just cut the ribbons and lay foundation stones. Their role is confined to these activities only. Faesal has taken a plunge into electoral politics let's see what he does for people and where he ends up?"
Another official said, "It's easy to make tall claims but when it comes to delivering it's a daunting task. Faesal will have to work very hard to reach the secretariat again. He has to win the elections first. After that he has to be a part of ruling party and if the party gives him any portfolio then only he can dream about entering the secretariat again. For time being his innings as bureaucrat has ended."
A politician while reacting to Faesal's remarks said, "I am hearing it for the first time that bureaucrats kneel before the politicians and have to follow their dictations. In the past many bureaucrats have left their jobs and joined politics but no one has ever made such a remark. Faesal should first think and then speak. No one expects him to be so irresponsible. He is an IAS topper and he should ensure that he sets an example. Leveling baseless allegations would lower his self respect and esteem in the society."
