Early Times Report
Jammu, May 27: An alleged thief trespassed into a locked temple in Chann-Arorian area of district Kathua on May 20 and made an abortive attempt to loot it. The act was recorded in a camera, but still police refused to register FIR due to unknown reasons. Earlier last year, in November, thieves struck in the Mahallori temple located in Pandit Mohallah of Chann Arorian. "An amount of over Rs 40-45 thousand along with golden jewellery worth several thousand was
stolen by the thieves from the temple", locals said, adding that during that time, they had lodged a written complaint at Rajbagh Police Station but nothing was done by the police to nab the thieves.
Locals further said that after getting cold response from the police, they installed CCTV cameras inside the premises of temple. "Once again on the night of May 20, a local youth made an abortive bid of theft in the temple. The temple was locked, so the thief barged through a
window and searched everything in the temple. In the morning, when locals found something fishy, they checked the CCTV recording and found that a thief had entered into the temple", locals said. They added that a local resident, Parshotam Dass, of Pandit Mohallah
lodged a complaint at police station Rajbagh on the morning of May 21, but police refused to register an FIR. "In the CCTV footage, the thief can be easily recognized by everyone
and he can be linked to earlier theft case, but the police refused to register FIR", the locals said, alleging that some of the police personnel, who were actually relatives of the youth, were trying to bury the issue.
"Police officials were saying that nothing has been stolen by the youth, and that a temple is a public place "where anyone can come, so no case can be registered'," the locals alleged, adding that in recent past, several incidents of thefts have been reported from the area but
police refuse to register case as well as tracing the thieves. A senior police official pleading anonymity termed the excuses of police as lame only to help the culprit. The locals appealed Senior Superintendent of Police Kathua to take cognizance of the matter and take action against the irresponsible police officials. Munshi of Police Station Rajbagh, Darshan Kumar said that no FIR has been registered.
