Political interference had made job of security forces difficult'
Zakir Musa's killing big jolt for terror outfits, local recruitment on decline

Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 27: As many as 91 terrorists, including eight self styled commanders of terror outfits, have been killed in Kashmir since January this year.
Security experts are of the opinion that success rate of anti-militancy operations has increased manifolds since the day Jammu and Kashmir has been placed under Governor's rule. "No political interference has made our job easy. When the political dispensation was at place the politicians used to poke their nose in every matter. But during the past ten months we have been given a freehand and we have succeeded in eliminating the terrorists and their top commanders swiftly," said an official.
He termed the killing of the chief commander of Ansar-ul-Ghazwatul-Hind, Zakir Musa as a big success. "His killing is a big blow for the terror outfits active in the Valley. It's a big jolt for the terror outfits, who during the past few months were finding no fresh recruits. Nearly 40 new cadres joined the terror outfits since January this year. Of these 40 new cadres, five have been killed and four have surrendered," the official added.
It may be recalled when PDP-BJP coalition was ruling the state the security agencies were told to catch the terrorists alive and they (terrorists) should be given a chance to surrender. The erstwhile regime had also raised the incentive for the terrorists who would surrender.
A defence analyst said that "Political dispensation was the biggest impediment as far as the success of the Operation All Out was concerned. The politicians for the sake of vote bank politics had put the national security at stake. The soft policy of politicians towards terrorists and the separatists had emboldened them and they were calling the shots. Whenever terrorists used to get trapped in cordons activists of the separatist lobby used to instigate the people to reach near the encounter site and indulge in stone-pelting. More than 10,000 stone pelters were granted amnesty during the PDP led regime. These factors had made the job of security forces difficult."
He said that in 2018, 258 terrorists were killed. "In the first four months of 2019 more than 90 have been neutralized. The situation in Kashmir is showing improvement as the fear psychosis created by the terrorists is vanishing with each passing day," the defence analyst added.
A Kashmir watcher said that "Prime Minister Narendra Modi returning to power is an indication that operations against the terrorists would continue till the terrorism is wiped out completely from the Valley."
