SUNDERBANI, May 27: Funds to the tune of Rs. 3 lakhs were sanctioned by a legislator from his Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for two developmental works but the money has been shown utilized on papers but on ground no work has been done by the department concerned, pointing towards a scandal.
According to sources, Member of Legislative Council Ravinder Sharma sanctioned Rs 3 lakh in 2013-14 from his CDF for development works in Panchayat nallah of tehsil and block Sunderbani district Rajouri.
The CDF money was supposed to be utilized for levelling of playground of Government High School Barnada and for the construction of community pond. The Block Development Office Sunderbani had to utilized the funds but to utter surprise of the villagers, no development work was taken up by the department.
Sources said that as per official records the funds have already been utilized merely in records which ultimately went into the pockets of some officials of the department as well as some local panchayat representatives.
"The condition of playground of GSH Barnada is as it was many years before while no such pond was constructed at the designated site", the locals said, alleging that the money has been siphoned off by the officials of the department.
The locals appealed Vigilance Department to look into the matter and register an FIR into the matter and took action against involved officials.
Block Development Officer (BDO) Sunderbani Raman Sharma said that the funds were sanctioned during the tenure of some other BDO and he had no knowledge about the matter. He asked to talk to the same BDO, who was posted during that time in Sunderbani.
