Early Times Report
Jammu, May 30: Despite decrease in the workload after disassociation of five government degree colleges from University of Jammu there is no let up in mistakes in exams.
This time JU is in the news for goofing up the General English paper, most of questions were from English literature subject, so the exam was cancelled.
According to the faculty members working in various colleges which are still affiliated with University of Jammu, on Wednesday, the exam of General English of Second Semester was scheduled to be held.
"When the teachers distributed the question papers among the students, some students objected to the questions, after which teachers also realized that most of the questions were from English Literature section and not of General English", sources said, adding that though it was written on the top of the Question paper that it was General English paper but actually the paper was of English Literature.
The faculty members then called the Controller Examination Office Jammu University, and on their recommendations, the exam was cancelled.
Sources further disclosed that nearly a week back, there was examination of Communication Dogri and it was of maximum 40 marks but it was shown as maximum of 80 marks. "Once again Controller office was contacted and then it was communicated that it was of 40 marks", the faculty members said.
The faculty members further said that earlier whenever there such blunders used to take place the whole blame was put on excessive workload. "But now five major colleges of Jammu city have de-affiliated from Jammu University and another major College has become an autonomous college, so the workload has actually reduced but still the problem continues", the faculty said, adding that even day off and on, mistakes have been committed by University.
The Vice-Chancellor of University must take cognizance of the matter otherwise it was disrespect to grades to Jammu University.
Controller Examination Prof. Kulwant Singh said that the General English paper had to be cancelled due to a technical mistake as well as printing error. "All students have General English as subject and so there is large number of students. The University had sent paper for setting to experts and during its setting there was mistake in code, due to which the error happened", Prof. Singh said, adding that University has taken serious view of the matter and a meeting of Dean of all departments have been called to avoid any such error in future.
