Soz expresses concern over deplorable water bodies in valley
5/31/2019 10:01:35 PM
Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 31: Prof. Saifuddin Soz, Former Union Minister has expressed concerned over deplorable conditions of waters bodies in Kashmir valley.
According to press release Prof Soz said, "For a change we may turn from Politics to our Fragile Ecology & Environment, I would like to invite the attention of the people to the 'Shrinking of our Water Bodies' in Kashmir!"
The efforts directed towards conservation of our assets like Wular and Dal have already failed to solve the problem to a satisfactory level. The LAWDA has quite a lot to show in files!
But, the reality is that no sizeable effort has continued towards solution of a durable nature. An all out effort is needed to organize a movement to conserve our Water Bodies, unless we are prepared to see the disaster happening before our very eyes. Meanwhile, some of the beautiful lakes around Srinagar such as Gilsar and Khushal Sar are shrinking by the day through the wonton encroachments and pathetic negligence of the Governance System.
Deputy Commissioner Srinagar seems to have taken some interest in recent times, including institution of a Task Force which needs to be appreciated. I would urge DC Srinagar to sustain the effort directed at conservation of Gilsar, Khuhalsar and other smaller lakes, which may not need enormous funding.
Meanwhile, I would also urge him (DC Srinagar) to institute a 'Citizens' Council' to raise a sizeable movement for Conservation of Water Bodies in Kashmir. Somebody told me half jokingly when I was feeling quite a bit concerned about this impending disaster-What can we do; the Encroachers are usually trying to find the first rows of the Mosques for their Namaz.
