5/31/2019 11:50:44 PM

Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, May 31: Fearing violence on Eid-ul-Fitr that will be likely celebrated on Wednesday, the Government has directed all senior officers of police and civil administration to be available at their district headquarters to monitor the situation closely across the Valley.
Official sources said the security agencies apprehended that clashes may break out on Eid day after the prayers. "There are also reports that militants may try to show their presence before the Eid like they did on previous Eid when they killed senior journalist Shujaat Bukhari," sources said. Sources said that security agencies have been told to ensure peaceful Eid. "Anti-militancy operations have been intensified and government wants militants should not make any attack on eve of Eid," source within the police said.
"Every senior official including DCs, SSPs, SPs, DSPs and concerned officials related to law and order have been directed not to leave the headquarters, without the prior permission of the designated authorities and instead remain available on the ground to monitor the situation closely," a senior police official said.
The official said government has decided to make additional deployment of security personnel especially in sensitive places on this festival. Official sources said as per contingency measures, more central armed police force personnel that were rushed to the Valley have been deployed across the Valley.
"We have got reports that some people may format trouble on Eid. But we are well prepared to deal with the situation," the official said.
The official said the security forces were fully prepared to ensure there is no trouble on Eid. "Whatever measures needs to be taken to ensure trouble free Eid, government will take," he added.
In last few months, the government has taken some strict measures against militant and separatist sympathizers. The government has banned Jamaat-e-Islami and JKLF, who were involved for formatting trouble in the valley even on Eid.
They have been declared as "unlawful associations" under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
"Pursuant to this, the Jammu and Kashmir (Home Department) has issued the required notifications to give effect to the notifications of the Central Government and authorized District Magistrates and Police Officers to take necessary action.
Consequent to the above, association or participation, direct or indirect, of any Government employee with the said unlawful associations i.e JeI or JKLF (Mohd. Yasin Malik faction), shall attract the provisions of the Jammu and Kashmir Government Employees (Conduct) Rules, 1971," a order reads issued ealier.
"Central Government in its pursuit of strong action against terrorism, has today declared JKLF (Yasin faction) as an unlawful association under the provisions of Section 3(1) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. The Central Government has followed the policy of 'Zero Tolerance' against terrorism and has acted strongly against terrorists. Securities forces have been given free hand to deal with terrorism," the Union home ministry had said in a statement.
Declaring Jama'at an "unlawful association", the Centre banned the religo-political group for five years.
