Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, May 31: At a time when the Governor Satya Pal Malik led state administration is claiming to have evicted encroachers from state land a prized plot of this type of land has been encroached by land mafia near the Srinagar airport.
Early Times has learnt from sources that around two and half kanals of land have been encroached by the land mafia at Gogoland near Humhama. The area falls within the vicinity of Srinagar International Airport and has great market value.
"The land mafia encroached upon this prized plot of land more than a month back. The plot of land comes under survey number 1076/2 and was being eyed by some of the influential people of the area. The land was being used as grazing of the cattle by the people living in the vicinity," said sources.
Sources said that initially an impression was given that the land has been encroached by a youth leader of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but the same was found to be false. Later on it came out the plot of land has been encroached by a group of brokers. The brokers are a part of the land mafia that is very much active in the whole area.
The locals of the area approached the District Administration Budgam with the complaint urging her to carry out the demolition drive in the drive. The locals said that the plot of land was earmarked for the graveyard adding that the land mafia has not even spared the same as well.
"The concerned Deputy Commissioner asked the Tehsildar to visit the area and carry out the demolition drive in the area. The concerned Tehsildar has not bothered to look into the matter. This gives an impression that the Tehsildar is hand in glove with the land mafia active in the area," said the locals.
The locals said that although the encroachment took place during the intervening night of April 19 and 20 no action whatsoever has been taken so far. They said swift action in the case would give a dent to the land mafia in the area.
When contacted Tehsildar Budgam Nusrat Aziz said that she would take the necessary action as and when the complainants approach her in person. She said that she has carried out a visit to the area but is not sure about the specified complaint.
