After winning elections leaders forget their voters: Satwari residents tell Munish
5/31/2019 11:51:38 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, May 31: Editor Early Times Munish Gupta on Friday carried forward his mass contact programme in Raipur Satwari area. Munish would be contesting the forthcoming Assembly elections as Independent candidate from Gandhi Nagar constituency.
Residents of Wards No 5 of Raipur Satwari, which falls under Jammu Cantonment area appreciated Munish for reaching out to the common people.
While narrating their problems, the residents apprised Munish about the shabby conditions of their lanes and drains. "The concerned ward representative is least bothered about our problems," the residents alleged.
Rama Kumari, the resident of ward no. 5 said the lane leading to her house has not been constructed for the past ten years. "No tile work has been done on it and due to dilapidated drains the dirty water remains stagnant and sometime it overflows due to which we are unable to move out," Kumari said.
"We are very poor. But till date no financial assistance has been provided to us. We on many occasions made several requests to the concerned representative to help us get the financial assistance under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna scheme or under Ujwala yojana but our pleas fell flat on deaf ears. We have been the worst victims of government apathy and the local leaders who make only tall claims," said Rita Devi and Soma Devi, both residents of the ward no 5.
Another local, Arun while talking to Munish Gupta, informed him that they always support the leaders who come to seek votes but after winning the polls the leaders just forget their voters.
Similarly, the residents of the Ward No. 1 of Panchayat Old Satwari, which also falls in Raipur area raised issues like encroachment of irrigating tributaries which were in use few years ago but some people encroached them to construct their residential houses.
Neelam Devi, the resident of Ward No. 1 alleged that there is no headway to drain the water due to alleged encroachment of the land demarcated for it. "In government map, there is specified route of nallah which crosses through the entire ward but only small portion of it has been constructed while the major part has been encroached but the department has taken no action till date due to which the locals have been facing huge difficulties," she added.
"Some of the lanes have not been tiled or macadamised in the ward due to which people face immense problems," said Jatinder Singh.
