Ramban, June 3: The menace of drugs among the youth is spreading at an alarming rate which is among the greatest causes of concern. In order to free the society of such heinous societal crimes, a special drive have been launched by Ramban police against the drug abuse.
Carrying forward the special drive, on the directions of SSP Ramban Anita Sharma, a police party led by ICPP JT SI Sameer Ahmed under supervision of SHO Banihal insp Ajaz Ahmed,SDPO Banihal DYSP Sajad Sarwar KPS and under close supervision of Adll.SP Sanjay Parihar KPS laid a surprise naka near Shaitani Nallah on NHW to conduct the checking of vehicle's.
During checking a vehicle(Truck) bearing reg no PB19M/3663 which was on its way from kashmir has been signalled to stop for checking. On thorough search of the vehicle, recovered a gunny bag filled with *POPPY STRAW(Bhukki) like substances weighing about 33 Kilograms* from the vehicle. The said vehicle has been seized.
The suspected person namely Jagjeet Singh son of Gurdev Singh resident of Akhara Teh Jagraun Distt Ludhiana,Panjab has been taken into custody.
In this regard case FIR NO 71/19 under section 8/15 of NDPS act stands registered against the accused person at Police Station Banihal and investigation has been geared up to asertain the source and other persons involved in smuggling of contraband.
