JDA's land worth Rs 2 cr occupied in Top Sherkhania

Early Times Report
Jammu, May 3: A prime piece of land belonging to Jammu Development Authority (JDA) at Top Sherkhania locality of the city has been encroached by an influential person who is eyeing to grab more state land.
According to locals, from day one, the influential man who has over four acres of land near power house Top Sherkhania area had been trying to grab the JDA's land adjoining to his land but failed to get support of the concerned department.
In last few years, he devised a plan in collusion with the help of some government officials to encroach upon a piece of government land, which falls just adjoining to his house, sources said, adding that the encroacher has already sold vast stretches of his own land but continues to grab government land.
"As per the plan, he brought some cows and stated a dairy farm there. He kept his cows in the JDA's land and also started throwing cow dung in the JDA's land", locals informed, adding that as per a well planned conspiracy, he then raised a cowshed on the plot and encroached upon one kanal land.
Sources further said that he went on to shift the cows to adjoining area and expanded his cowshed and started throwing cow dung to encroach upon some more area.
"Recently, the encroacher constructed a large building structure on the encroached land, while his plans to encroach more JDA's land have been going on unabated", locals said, adding that JDA had installed a signboard in the land, claiming land as JDA's property, but same was also removed from there.
Locals further alleged that the encroached land was a prime government land and cost of one marla of land in the area ranges from Rs 10-12 lakh. "As per an estimate, the encroacher has almost grabbed over one kanal of land, cost of which is over Rs 2 crore while efforts are on to encroach more land but the lower rung officials of JDA have given free hand to the encroacher", sources alleged, adding that the modus operandi of the encroachers was same everywhere as once the building structure would be in-place, if the concerned government agency would trying to dismantle the structure, the encroacher would knock the door of court and managed stay.
"It is beyond doubt that without the connivance of the officials of JDA, such prime piece of land could be encroached by any individual", sources alleged.
