Industrial fraternity strongly demands continuation of Lakhanpur Toll Tax: BBIA
6/4/2019 9:38:57 PM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, June 4: Raising serious concern in respect of repeated attempts of some vested interest people who are hell bent upon to destroy the industrial sector of J&K by voicing the removal of Toll Tax at Lakhanpur, the Bari Brahmana Industries Association (BBIA) said that such elements are making this demand with ulterior motives.
Highlighting the issue in a meeting of BBIA held today under the Presidentship of Lalit Mahajan and in the presence of Tarun Singla, Sr Vice President, Ajay Langer Vice President, Viraaj Malhotra General Secretary, Rajesh Jain Secretary and Vivek Singhal Treasurer besides others, the members said that the ill design to allow the import/export of unaccounted goods in and out from the state may result into huge financial loss to the state exchequers as well as to the industrial sector of J&K working in state in spite of all odds since last 40 years as they are facing stiff competition from the manufacturers/ traders from outside the State.
It was resolved in the meeting that, it was observed in past that as and when the government exempted some items from the Toll tax, the benefit of the same never passed on to the consumers while in some cases the rates instead of reducing were enhanced by the companies. The majority of the food products like Rice, Atta, Maida and fresh vegetables which are being used by the common man are already exempted from the preview of Toll Tax, hence there is no justification for hue and cry raised by some persons who are trading in some goods on which the Toll Tax is being deposited in crores of rupees annually. Moreover, all the products being supplied by the domestic as well as multinational companies on MRP basis in which the Toll Tax component is already included in the prices being paid by the consumers.
It was also resolved in the meeting that any move of the government to withdraw the Toll Tax may be resulting into mass scale agitation by the industrial units along with the retrenchment of the industrial workers as majority of the industrial units have no option but to close down their establishments.
It was strongly resolved in the meeting that the government should not remove Toll Tax at Lakhanpur.
BBIA appealed to Governor to intervene into the matter and ensure that the Toll Tax at Lakhanpur should remain in force.
