| NC dumps Congress in J&K, to contest Assembly elections alone | | | Agencies
New Delhi, June 4: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah-led National Conference (NC) has decided to sever its ties with the Congress. The National Conference may now contest the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections alone, according to the reports. The assembly polls in the state may take place later this year.
The development has come a few weeks after Congress's drubbing in the state in Lok Sabha polls for which, the party has blamed the National Conference. Congress had alleged that Farooq and Omar Abdullah did not campaign for the party in Jammu.
Congress chief spokesperson in J&K Ravinder Sharma cited many reasons for the party's rout in Lok Sabha elections and also lashed out at the NC, saying its leaders didn't campaign for the Congress candidates.
NC has, however, rejected the charges and said that the party did campaign for the Congress. Hitting back at Congress, National Conference leader Anil Dhar said that the Rahul Gandhi-led party is itself responsible for the Lok Sabha rout.
Anil Dhar asked if Congress chief Rahul Gandhi and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra campaigned for the party in Jammu and Kashmir. Warning the Congress against blaming the NC for its poll debacle, NC leader said that Cong high command and the state leaders are responsible for its defeat.
The National Conference leader also said that there would not be any alliance with the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir. "We will contest the assembly polls on our own," he said, adding, "Congress must introspect over its defeat." |
