Digiana residents crave for basic amenities

JAMMU, June 30: Basic civic amenities are still a distant dream for Digiana residents and they alleged that former Minister and MLA Gandhi Nagar during his visit to the area had promised that lanes, drains, and other basic amenities would be provided/ improved but nothing has been done due to which they are suffering a lot.
They told that repairs of damaged drainage, lanes as well as linked road have been a long pending demand but the step has been taken to address the problems being faced by the locals. Long power outages and searing heat conditions have left them exasperated but who cares?
Anil Kumar said that the link road Digaina Pulli in a dilapidated condition for last more than 3 to 4 years and nobody seems interested in it.
Pawan Kumar said that the cleanliness of drains has remained a major issue in the area. At times nobody visits even after two weeks of times due to which the dirty water of drains remains stagnant giving birth to mosquitoes particularly in the summer season.
Ramesh Lal said that the maximum temperature is recorded above 40 degree Celsius and unscheduled and Long Power cuts make life miserable in the area. He added that when the Government is so particular in enforcing laws and rules on consumers, then how it can deny the right of 24X7 power supply to them while we regularly pay the bills.
Parkasho Devi said that the chocked drains and bad condition of lanes exposed the development done by the previous government. She alleged that they are living in pathetic condition due to lack of slope of drains, water remains stagnant and overflows and the situation gets more serious during the rainy season.
Failure of authorities to undertake cleaning of drains leads to frequent water-logging after slight rains in areas, Namo said, adding that the drains are completely choked and dirty water is entered into their houses.
Vijay Kumar said that most of the people complain of a faulty system to drain out water from many areas, alleging the government was sleeping over the issue for last many years. Besides, a long power cut has made the lives of residents' hell. He quoted MLC Vikram Randhawa that the electricity transformer has been sanctioned but yet to installed in the area to overcome the power burden.

Madan Lal, a resident of Digiana, is suffering for last many years with blockage of drain backside his house as drain has not been slope by the executive agency due to which his house on the verge of fall down anytime. He told that the concerned officials visited the spot many times and assured to resolve it but nothing was done on the ground.
"Our roof is falling down gradually due to dirty water logged backside her house and it can fall down anytime but no one is here to pay heed to our pleas," Shillo Devi, head of the family told, adding that not only this but other walls of the house are also absorbed water leads to damage the wall. " we are living in small house and when the rain comes, the dirty water comes into our house," she also told.
He further added that a number of time they approached concerned authority as well as Politicians to solve the problems but nothing has been done so far.
