Anantnag, July 11: In an unprecedented development, a government school was closed after infighting between teachers took an ugly turn on Wednesday.
The residents of Khiram-Sangnard village of South Kashmi's Anantnag district locked Government Primary School in their vicinity to register protest against the higher authorities of the education department for not taking action against the teachers who indulge in brawling inside the school in presence of students.
Villagers told Early Times that three teachers posted in the school fight routinely with each other over several issues and the same matter was brought into the notice Zonal Education Officer Srigufwara and Chief Education Officer Anantnag but no action was initiated against the erring teachers. "Each time we visit this school we found these teachers fighting with each other," Abdul Majid, a resident said, adding the routine brawling was adversely affecting their children.
Another resident, Nazir Ahmad claimed that teachers were fighting over utilization of funds and mid day meals.
"These teachers are playing with the future of our children. On daily basis community is being neglected and deprived of its basic rights," residents alleged.
They said that prior to shutting down the school, they had brought the issue into the notice of higher-officials of education department but no action was taken.
"Children studying in class 1st don't have memorized alphabets and numbers yet while as the students of same class enrolled in private or other government schools know counting and can read and write the sentences," they said.
They alleged that due to brawling and infighting among the teachers, students were facing the burnt and getting depressed.
Teachers posted in the school, admitted that they fight with each other and leveled serious charges against each other.
Chief Education Officer Anantnag told Early Times that he has directed Zonal Education Officer Bijbehara to visit the school and submit a detailed report.
"Action will be taken once ZEO submits report," CEO said.
