Early Times Report

JAMMU, July 29: A deputation of Sarpanchs and others of Tehsil Ramgarh approached Manmohan Singh President AIJMS J&K to raise issue with the authorities of their negligence. Due to recent floods their crops are almost damaged and the excessive water flow is disturbing the fertility of lands.
The project of flood Protection Bunds construction has not been completed within its stipulated timeline. Singh led the deputation to DC Samba Sushma Chauhan in the presence of Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control Vinod Kumar Gupta, S.E I&FC, XEN Div. Samba, ADC Samba, SDM Vijaypur and SDPO Vijaypur.
Singh informed the DC that for the past 2-3 days, the rains have caused a flood like situation in area of Kamore Forward, Rangoor, Barotta and Keso and the people of these areas are facing loss of their crops. He said that they had anticipated this problem months ago and hence met with Governor Satyapal Malik over this issue.
"Thanks to Governor's action, the project amount of 14.80 crores was sanctioned for construction of protection bunds. Further thanks to Div. Com Jammu Sanjeev Verma for taking action at the right time and accelerating the process. But when a project comes down the operational hierarchy, it gets struck. This work was allotted months ago but of the 910, only 17 crates have been installed within the completion period. This is the result of negligence I&FC Div Samba and the contractors. They should have understood the importance of this project and completed it within the given time but they did not bother to take this seriously and now the villagers are suffering because of their slack attitude towards Govt orders," the locals said.
Singh requested that this situation be dealt with professionally and it's a possibility that if action be taken now, they can prevent the situation from worsening in coming months and the villagers are thus prevented from facing any more loss. DC assured the delegation that she will have their problems resolved in 2-3 days. She said she will call upon the responsible authorities and strict action will be taken against the guilty employees and an FIR will be lodged against the Contractor and he will be blacklisted from doing any Govt work ever.
