Early Times Report
Jammu, July 29: Irony of sorts happened in the state on Monday when PDP on one hand accused the national conference of causing irreparable damage to state's special status and at the same time PDP President urged the National Conference to join hands to protect the same special status.
PDP General Secretary Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura termed it unfortunate that NC leadership in order to score browny points within the party is busy spreading lies and hoodwinking people. According to Hanjura, Mr Sagar should recall the speech of NC Founder Sheikh Abdullah on the floor of the state legislative assembly on March 2, 1981 in which he declared Jammu and Kashmir's special status as a major road block in state's prosperity and development and stated that Article 370 was not a Quranic verse that cannot be amended. "The minutes of this session are very much available in the records of state legislature and can be accessed any time," said Hanjura. He added that history bears testimony to the fact that it was National Conference that has bulldozed the institutions of democracy and justice in the state and the emergence of the PDP on state's political landscape was only to thwart NC's nefarious deigns. "The recent statement of Omar Abdullah is the clear indication that NC will not object to scraping of 35-A. However, PDP will never allow this to happen and can go to any extent in safeguarding JK's unique position and core interests," said PDP.
However, minutes later, taking to Twitter, Mehbooba called out National Conference's Farooq Abdullah in particular to organise an all-party meeting. "In light of recent developments that have caused a sense of panic amongst people in J&K, I have requested Dr Farooq Abdullah sahab to convene an all-party meeting," she wrote. "Need of the hour is to come together and forge a united response. We the people of Kashmir need to stand up as one."
Earlier on Monday, former CM of Jammu and Kashmir Farooq Abdullah spoke against the removal of Article 35A and Article 370 from the state, claiming that 'they are Hindustani' but the Articles are important for them. He further added that the Centre is creating 'a situation of fear' moreover threatened saying 'wait and watch the consequences.'
He said, "They are creating a situation of fear. If they abrogate 35 A, they will have to abrogate every Article that has come by the President. We will have to go back to 1947. Abrogating the Article is against the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir. You watch and see the consequences, wait and see what will happen."
Mufti even threatened violence over Article 35A on Sunday, speaking at a public meeting on the occasion of PDP's foundation day at Srinagar, Mufti lashed out at NIA, criticised Centre's anti terror operations and declared that bodies of those will be burned who will meddle with the status of Article 35-A in the valley.
One wonders which of the statement issued by both NC as well as the PDP is correct and can be trusted. For now, the chorus continues to dazzle the audience.
