Early Times Report
Jammu, July 29: Accusing successive MLAs of Congress and BJP of apathy, the residents of Valmiki Colony and its adjoining mohalla of Sector 4 of Guru Nanak Nagar said that they are grappling under acute shortage of civic amenities but the successive MLAs made only lip services and delivered nothing on ground level.
Editor Early Times, Munish Gupta who would be contesting upcoming assembly elections from Gandhi Nagar Constituency as an independent candidate, on Monday conducted extensively tour in Valmiki Colony and Guru Nanak Nagar's sector 4 and its adjacent markets.
During his mass contact programme, the residents accused the formers MLAs for ignoring their problems, especially the former MLA Kavinder Gupta who have never visited the colony after getting elected. "The lanes and by lanes of Valmiki colony are turned dilapidated. Drains has been blocked and no safaikaramchari have come occasionally to carry cleanliness drive", said Rano Devi.
Dalviro residents of Valmiki locality informed Munish Gupta that however, most of residents of that locality employed in Municipal Corporation Jammu either of permanently or on contractual basis but their own locality is reeling under shortage of civic amenities. "Our lanes are not constructed nor repaired since last many years. Water supply mostly off, electricity playing hide and seek and its credit goes to only the successive MLA those who come here only to get vote but after election they forget our development", said Vimala.
"Few years back, the raining water wrecked havoc in our locality when sewerage nallah water entered in our home on either side and had damaged all our belongingness. At that time, the then DC Jammu Simranjit Singh came and directed the authority to raise a embankment along the house of Sector 4 of Guru Nanak and left our side without embankment, resulting, since every monsoon the nallah overflowing water enters in our home but the embankment which was announced earlier is still not constructed on our side", Sanjay Kumar.
Prem Lata residing in Sec 4 near the nallah said that on one hand, the stinky nallah was giving sleepless night due to blockage and not desilt years ago while on other hand, the sanitation employees dumped all the garbage in the nallah rather than in bins installed along road near Shivaji Chowk. "In this regards, we repeatedly appraised to authority concerned but till date they even not reply to our complaints, registered either telephonically or online", V P Kesar.
Hanging live wire endangers human lives in Valmiki Colony
The apathy of the Power Development Department Jammu has posed serious threat to the lives of people in Valmiki Colony where live hanging wires endanger lives of the people.
However, we repeatedly asked to official of concerned department, to install some the electric poles at some places to channelize the electricity wire because most of live wire is just 7-8 feet from the ground level. But ironically our pleas never fall into deaf ears, said Ram Chand.
"We requested the concerned Junior Engineer for realignment of the wires which have become threat to them but he did not help. Later we moved an application about the same problem with the higher officials and even local corporator but instead of its redressal they make excuses every time to divert our genuine issues", said lucky.
