Waste Management a challenge in Rural areas

BUDGAM, July 29: Department of Rural Sanitation (DRD) in collaboration with Block Development Office Chadoora and Tulkul Arts and Media Collective on Monday organised a workshop on solid liquid waste management under Swachh Bharat Gramin at Govt Higher Secondary School Wathoora , Chadoora in Budgam district on Monday. The aim of the workshop was to sensitize the students about the ways and methods to address menace of solid waste in rural areas
While addressing the students , teachers and local citizens of Wathoora Budgam, Director Rural Sanitation Department Leena Padha said that waste management is a serious issue and now this problem is not only affecting cities and towns but villages and rural areas are also seriously affected by accumulation of plastic waste which needs to be addressed. She lauded the efforts of local youth , social activists and BDO Chadoora for trying their best to create awareness about waste management in Chadoora and other adjoining villages.
RTI Activist and Columnist Dr Raja Muzaffar gave practical demonstration on Management of Solid Waste at household level. He urged upon students to ensure they compost organic waste in their kitchen gardens rather than throwing that on roads and water bodies. Principal Govt Higher Secondary School Wathoora Dr Maqbool spoke in detail about the rold of science especially Physics to addressing menace of solid waste especially the plastic waste
Hilal Ahmad Mir DPO Budgam , Riyaz Ahmad Shah BDO Chadoora , Sarpanches and Panches of the area also spoke on the occasion. Large number of locals residents , students and teachers of Hr Secondary School Wathoora also spoke on the occasion. Rayees Wathoori Chairman of Tulkul Art and Media Collective performed a skit and musical programme on the theme of solid liquid waste management. At the end of the programme Director Rural Sanitation lead a sanitation drive in Wathoora market by collecting plastic waste from roadside which was aimed at sensitizing local shopkeepers for not littering on the roadside ….
