Four arrested for hunting peacock in Nowshera, weapon recovered

RAJOURI, July 29: Jammu and Kashmir police in Rajouri district have arrested four persons for hunting in forest area and killing a peacock.
During the intervening night of 28-29 July 2019, a specific information received from reliable source that some persons are hunting peacock in forest area of Kalal in Nowshera.
Acting swiftly, police party of police station Nowshera led by SI Ajaz Parvaiz rushed to the area and intercepted an alto car bearing registration number JK11B-6099 at Kalal road which was driven by Gurdeep Singh son of Jagjeet Singh resident of Kanara Nowshera.
During search of vehicle, recently hunted and killed Peacock was recovered after which vehicle was seized and the accused was also arrested.
Later, a team of police headed by SDPO Nowshera Brijesh Sharma under the supervision of Addl SP Nowshera Girdhari Lal Sharma put the accused to sustained interrogation who disclosed the names of three more associates namely
Charan Singh son of Prem Singh resident of Nonial Nowshera, Karnail Singh son of Charan Singh residents of Nonial Nowshera and Jasbir Singh son of Santokh Singh resident of Nonial Nowshera.
A team of police from Nowshera police station conducted simultaneous raids and arrested all the other accused and a 12 bore gun was also recovered from the possession of Charan Singh.
The said weapon was used for hunting and killing of peacock.
All the four accused involved in the killing and hunting of Peacock have now been arrested and a case FIR No 142/ 2019 U/S 08/51 Wildlife Protection Act has been registered at Nowshera police station.
Pertinent here to mention that hunting and killing of Peacock, the country's national bird, is prohibited by law.
