Dineshwar Sharma, IPS Vijay Kumar in race for L-G's post in J&K Union Territory 8/9/2019 10:50:44 PM Agencies NEW DELHI, Aug 9: After Parliament passed the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill 2019 paving way for the bifurcation of the state into two Union Territories (UTs), the Centre is considering names to appoint the first Lieutenant Governor (L-G) of Jammu and Kashmir. Retired IPS officer Vijay Kumar and Centre's Special Representative Dineshwar Sharma are top contenders for the post of Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory, reports said. Dineshwar Sharma, former Director of the Intelligence Bureau, was appointed as the Centre's interlocutor for Jammu and Kashmir in 2017. He was appointed as the government's representative for carrying forward a "sustained dialogue" with all stakeholders in Jammu and Kashmir. In 2018, IPS Vijay Kumar was appointed as an Advisor to the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir along with IAS officer BB Vyas, the Chief Secretary of the state.
