Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, Oct 8: Despite spending huge funds, the PHE department has failed to make operational water filter plant at Malhar area of district Udhampur. It was in the year 2004 that the PHE department commissioned a Filtration Plant at Malhar village to solve the water problem of almost five panchayats of the area but unfortunately the filtration plant since 2005 is shut.
However, no one came here so far to see the ground reality of the filtration plant.
Having population of more than 20000 souls, the five panchayats including Malhar, Upper Rehmbal, Lower Rehmbal, Chopra Shop and other adjoining areas suffer a lot due to non- functioning of filtration plant even after the lapse of 14 years.
Preet Pal Singh, Sarpanch Upper Rehmbal Chopra Shop alleged that for the last 14 years the filtration plant is shut and filled with dirty water, garbage and muck adding that if operational the filtration plant caters more than 20 thousand population of over five panchayats but due to the negligent attitude of the PHE department, the plant is still defunct.
He said that that the locals of the area raised the issue several times with the district administration, higher heads of PHE department and also in front of officers in Back to Village Programme but our repeated pleas fallen into deaf ears as no one came here to take stock of the situation of the filter plant at Malhar.
He said that we face acute water problem due to the non-functioning of the filter plant.
