5,300 families added to J&K displaced list, will get Rs 5.5 lakh compensation
10/9/2019 7:46:26 PM
New Delhi , Oct 9
The government announced on Wednesday that more than 5,000 Jammu and Kashmir families have been added List of Displaced Persons and will now be eligible for the Rs 5.5 lakh compensation under the Prime Minister's Development Package. The families concerned are those who had migrated from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir to states other than Jammu and Kashmir, union minister Prakash Javadekar said.

Since the families had settled in states other than Jammu and Kashmir their names were not on the List of Displaced Persons, Javadekar said, before adding that the government was correcting a historical wrong and ensuring that these families receive benefits. The families number around 5,300.

The Prime Minister's Development Package is an umbrella scheme that funds several projects in Jammu and Kashmir. Under the package, the government provides a Rs 5.5 lakh compensation to families that migrated from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Javadekar made today's announcement at a press conference in New Delhi shortly after a meeting of the Union Cabinet. The other decisions taken by the cabinet include hiking dearness allowance for central government employees by 5 per cent and relaxing till 30th November 2019 the mandatory requirement of Aadhaar seeding for release of benefits under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi.
